Belated Grammys Analysis

Actually, this raises more questions than answers for me. Nevertheless, it's a Grammys first:

Indies Win 50% Of This Year's Grammy Awards

Independent artists and labels had a banner year at the 2009 Grammy Awards winning 56 of the 110 awards given or just over 50% of the total prizes.

I'm still trying to figure out exactly what this means. First, how do we define an "indie"? Then, what does this signify?

What's Going On

We've been back down in the basement for over a month now working on songs for the new album. We have about 8 or 9 in the hopper. Tracking is close to being done on about 4 of them and we have a few more to start. This album is shaping up to be somewhat dark, dealing with thoughts and emotions that we all have at one point or another. It's sounding like a slightly more cohesive album than our last one but we'll see (or hear). It seems like the themes explored on this one are very apropos in these times of woe and want.
